Project overview

The Australian Hockey Centre will bolster Perth as the premier destination for hockey in Australia. Building on Western Australia’s proud hockey legacy, the Centre will elevate the state’s role in developing world-class athletes and hosting international competitions.

The new Centre will feature four hockey pitches, including two certified to International Hockey Federation Category 1 standard and a 1,000-seat covered stadium expandable to 10,000 for major events. It will house high-performance facilities for Hockey Australia, including athlete recovery, wellbeing and training spaces, alongside media and broadcast infrastructure to support global coverage.

The Australian Hockey Centre will also serve the broader community, with dedicated change rooms, club storage, indoor hockey courts and social spaces such as a bar, kitchen and lounge. It will be home to both Hockey WA and Hockey Australia’s administrative offices, ensuring strong local and national collaboration.

This project is part of the WA Government’s PlayOn WA, an exciting initiative to deliver 2,030 community infrastructure items across WA by 2030.

Transforming the future of Australian hockey

Since 1979, Perth Hockey Stadium at Curtin University in Bentley has been the heart of hockey in Western Australia. With the Hockey Australia High Performance Program established in Perth in 1984, the city has played a pivotal role in Australia’s global hockey success.

The redevelopment of the stadium into the Australian Hockey Centre will result in a contemporary, world-class facility that meets the current and future needs of the sport.

The Centre will support elite athlete development, expand grassroots participation and aims to facilitate increased development and community programs for players, coaches, referees and volunteers across Western Australia. It aligns with Hockey Australia’s Centre of Excellence requirements and will drive long-term sustainability, community engagement and economic benefits for the state.

Hockey WA and Hockey Australia will remain onsite throughout construction, ensuring continuity and connection during this exciting transformation.
