A smoking ceremony was held at the Royal Perth Hospital Emergency Department Expansion site, acknowledging the Whadjuk Noongar people as the Traditional Owners of the land where the project is being constructed.
The smoking ceremony was led by Traditional Owner and Elder Tina Hayden. She was joined by Traditional Owner Nick Abraham, who delivered a Welcome to Country.
The ceremony brought the project team together to reflect, connect and acknowledge the Traditional Owners and set a respectful foundation for construction activities ahead.
The new emergency department building will be located on the north-western end of the Royal Perth Hospital campus on Wellington Street, Perth. It will include two dedicated floors for an expanded emergency department.
Once complete, the project will deliver:
- a larger emergency department with increased treatment capacity
- additional ambulance bays and improved patient flow
- additional bed capacity to support future demand
- connections to existing hospital via a link, to integrate care and operations.
