Foundation piling has started on the Royal Perth Hospital Emergency Department Expansion, creating the foundations for the new emergency department.
The piling program will create the foundations for the new emergency department. The piles range from 1.05 m to 1.2 m in diameter and extend up to 15 m below ground.
Some reach the equivalent height of a five-storey building, highlighting the scale of the foundations required for the new facility.
Each foundation pile is formed by drilling deep into the ground, installing a steel reinforcement cage and then filling the excavation with concrete to create a strong foundation for the future building.
Piling started on Thursday, 30 July 2026 and will continue across the site until late September.
This important stage brings the project a step closer to delivering expanded emergency care facilities for the community.
