The Royal Perth Hospital Emergency Department Expansion has reached a significant construction milestone, with foundation piling now 50% complete.
Since works started in July, crews have been steadily installing the piles that will support the future emergency department building.
Steel reinforcement cages measuring up to 13.5 metres long are installed inside each pile before concrete is poured, creating the strength needed to support the multi-storey facility.
Each pile requires around 24 cubic metres of concrete, delivered by four concrete trucks carrying 6 cubic metres each. Thousands of cubic metres of concrete will be used throughout piling for the new building.
The work may not be visible above ground yet, but the foundations of the new emergency department are rapidly coming together.
