Mandurah and Peel residents are one step closer to accessing improved mental health services closer to home with the completion of the new Peel Community Mental Health Service and Kara Maar Specialist Community Eating Disorder Service.
Located in Greenfields near Mandurah, the purpose-built fit out of the facility was constructed in just six months and is funded by the Commonwealth’s Community Health and Hospitals Program.
The new facility will deliver outpatient, day and community-based treatment, providing adult and older adult mental health services alongside specialist outreach services for people experiencing eating disorders.
Designed to support recovery in a safe and welcoming environment, the clinic includes dedicated entrances for each service, private consultation and treatment rooms and spaces and purpose-designed therapeutic spaces.
The Community Mental Health Service offers a comprehensive continuum of care, supporting individuals through assessment, acute intervention, ongoing clinical treatment, psychosocial support and specialised rehabilitation to promote recovery, independence and long-term wellbeing.
Kara Maar’s Specialist Community Eating Disorder Service provides evidence-based assessment, treatment and physical health monitoring for people aged 16 and over who are experiencing, or showing signs of, an eating disorder. The service delivers multi disciplinary outpatient care, including nutritional and meal support, working collaboratively with individuals, families and carers to support safe and sustained recovery.
The new clinic forms part of the broader redevelopment at the current Peel Health Campus site, which includes construction of a new hospital for the Mandurah and Peel regions on the existing campus site. The new hospital will deliver:
- a new mental health emergency centre
- a reconfigured emergency department and additional operating theatre
- expanded outpatient and imaging services
- additional inpatient beds
- additional palliative care hospice beds
- additional chemotherapy places.
South Metropolitan Health Service ensures both the Peel Community Mental Health Service and Kara Maar Specialist Community Eating Disorder Service will be operational in their new facilities from March 2026. Following this, the existing facility will be closed and repurposed to provide additional medical or surgical outpatient clinics until the new hospital opens.
