Office of Major Infrastructure Delivery team members headed to the Australind train returning to service event on Sunday, 28 June. The day was spent chatting with locals from Bunbury and surrounds.
Conversations focused on two major projects – the New Mandurah Hospital and the Bunbury Hospital Redevelopment – with plenty of questions answered about what the projects will deliver.
While adults learned more about the future of health infrastructure in regional Western Australia, kids got hands on with a mini hospital activity, where they treated teddy bears and pretended to be hospital staff.
What is being built
New Mandurah Hospital
The new hospital is being built next to the existing Peel Health campus. When finished, it will include an expanded emergency department, a mental health emergency centre, more inpatient and mental health beds, an additional operating theatre and expanded day procedure and outpatient services. It will also deliver 12 chemotherapy places and upgraded medical imaging.
Bunbury Hospital Redevelopment
The Bunbury Hospital Redevelopment will deliver a larger, more modern facility for the South West. It includes a new seven-storey clinical tower, expanded maternity, birthing and neonatal services, increased operating theatre capacity and more medical and intensive care beds. The redevelopment will also improve emergency and mental health facilities and include a helipad to support critical care services.
More community pop ups are planned as work on these projects continues.
