Construction has commenced on the Australian Hockey Centre, following a ceremonial sod turning event on 26 February 2026 at Curtin University’s Bentley campus.

The $163 million development will transform the existing Perth Hockey Stadium site into a world-class, purpose-built facility and establish a permanent home for Hockey Australia's High Performance Program, providing dedicated base for Australia’s elite hockey athletes.

The Australian Hockey Centre will also support community hockey, school programs and the delivery of major national and international tournaments, ensuring the facility provides lasting benefits across all levels of the sport.

Key features:

The Australian Hockey Centre will feature:

  • four outdoor hockey pitches, including at least two built to international competition standard
  • a specialist high-performance training centre
  • an indoor hockey facility with two indoor courts
  • a new 1,000-seat stadium, with venue capacity for up to 10,000 spectators in event mode.

The development will also feature modern broadcast capabilities, community change rooms, specialist sports lighting, solar panels and administration offices for Hockey Western Australia and Hockey Australia.

The facility is being designed to achieve a 5 Star Green Star Certified rating, reflecting Australian excellence in sustainability, health and environmental performance.

The Australian Hockey Centre is expected to be completed by April 2029. Hockey Western Australia and Hockey Australia will continue to operate on site during construction, maintaining continuity for athletes, clubs and competitions.

Construction is expected to support more than 200 jobs and contribute an estimated $34.4 million to Western Australia’s Gross State Product. Over the longer term, the Centre will support economic activity through major events, tourism and increased community participation in sport.
