Nearly 3,000 tonnes of concrete and 50 tonnes of steel reinforcement will form the base of the new Australian Hockey Centre – enough to cover two full hockey fields.

The first bricks have also been laid to begin building the new world-class facility which will include:

  • four outdoor pitches with at least two at International Hockey Federation Category 1 standard
  • a specialist high-performance training centre
  • an indoor hockey centre including two indoor courts
  • a new 1,000 seat stadium with venue capacity to host up to 10,000 spectators in event mode.

Once complete, the Centre will support hockey at every level, from community participation through to national and international competition. It will also include modern broadcast capabilities, community change rooms, specialist sports lighting, solar panels and administration offices for Hockey Western Australia and Hockey Australia.

The facility is being designed with sustainability in mind and will be built to 5 Star Green Star certification.

Construction of the Australian Hockey Centre is expected to finish by April 2029. The project is also expected to support more than 200 jobs during construction and contribute to the State’s economy.

Hockey Western Australia and Hockey Australia will remain on site during the works, so players, clubs and competitions can continue as usual.
