The Royal Perth Hospital Emergency Department Expansion project is targeting a 5 Star Green Star rating – a national benchmark for sustainable buildings.
The project is registered with the Green Building Council of Australia. This milestone reflects a commitment to embedding sustainability from the outset and delivering strong environmental outcomes.
Since demolition works started, efforts have focused on reducing environmental impact and minimising waste and will continue throughout construction. To date, initiatives include:
- 26 tonnes of organics and vegetation have been re-used off site, including mulch donated to local residents and logs donated as firewood.
The following materials have been recycled off site:
- 370 tonnes of concrete, bricks, tiles and ceramics
- 147 tonnes of metals
- 18 tonnes of aggregates (asphalt), with more being removed
- 37 tonnes of mixed-use construction material.
Construction is underway for the Royal Perth Hospital Emergency Department Expansion Project. The new building will be located on the north-western end of the Royal Perth Hospital campus on Wellington Street, Perth. It will include two dedicated floors for an expanded emergency department, alongside additional floors to increase overall hospital services and capacity.
