The first sod has been turned on the Royal Perth Hospital Emergency Department Expansion – marking the start of construction on a new purpose-built emergency department.
The new building will be located on the north-western end of the Royal Perth Hospital campus on Wellington Street, Perth. It will include two dedicated floors for an expanded emergency department.
Once complete, the project will deliver:
- a larger emergency department with increased treatment capacity
- additional ambulance bays and improved patient flow
- additional bed capacity to support future demand
- connections to existing hospital via a link, to integrate care and operations.
The new building – located approximately 500 metres from the current emergency department – will be built while the existing emergency department remains fully operational.
The Emergency Department Expansion is the starting point for the long-term redevelopment for the Royal Perth Hospital precinct. Master planning is underway to guide future development in the most effective way.
