A Smoking Ceremony was recently held at the Acacia Prison Expansion site on Ballardong Noongar Country.
With a Welcome to Country led by Traditional Owner and Elder Rosalie Kickett, the event provided an opportunity for workers, project team members and representatives to come together to reflect, connect and set a respectful foundation for the construction activities ahead.
The Acacia Prison Expansion will deliver three new accommodation units, increasing the prison's capacity by 480 beds, alongside a new support services building and a dedicated industries building.
Construction is expected to be completed in 2029.
